To begin with...

Welcome to the "Vicarious Travelblog." This is to record the fun and travels of myself and some friends of mine. We are going to England for three weeks in August 2005. I'm just setting up this blog now...I'm not sure when we'll next have time to share.

With less than a month before we leave, we're having a "conference call" tonight to figure out where we want to stay, what we want to do, what we want to see, where we want to go, etc, etc, etc.

The main reason we're going over is for the World Gathering of Young Friends.

But we have about a week beforehand to travel the countryside. So if anyone has any ideas on what we should see in England...

A must is the British Museum. And you can't even do it all in one day, so do a bit of research about what you would like to see in there and what room it is in. Charing Cross Station is near the used book district if you have time. There are some cool Roman ruins within London if you can identify where they are first. don't plan on "walking" around London. it may look easy on the maps, but the maps don't show you the mile or two of little streets between the main ones. And there is more polluton from cars over there then in the US because their pollution laws are more lax with cars. If you can, go on an afternoon doubledecker sightseeing tour to familiarize yourself with London, where things are, and then use the rest of the time to check out the rest on your list. Are you going to Stonehenge? Oxford? Punting on the Thames? Be prepared to buy food at the grocers and not eat at restaurants - even Mcdonalds is expensive.
